Small and Medium Scale Enterprises have been identified as the engine room of economic development all around the world.
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on small and medium scale enterprise development, Mr. Ebiekure Eradiri made the assertion during a pre-international conference on small and medium scale enterprises road walk in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital.
The governor’s aide disclosed that the 20th edition of the International conference on small and medium scale enterprises holds in Yenagoa from the 30th of April to 3rd of May, adding that the road walk was intended to create the needed awareness and sensitize the people of the state.
Mr. Eradiri disclosed that, “it is the conviction of the State Governor that, SME development is the right way to go, noting that for us in Bayelsa we want to grow our economy aggressively to improve the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the state”
He emphasized the readiness of the state to host the conference, urging the people to take advantage of the opportunity, stressing that, a lot of gains will accrue to Yenagoa as the host city.
“This event will bring diverse areas of SME development to the state as well as short, medium and long term benefits’ he explained.
Speaking on the essence of hosting the conference, the Permanent Secretary, of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment, Barr. Collins Daniel, said it is to ensure that, SME has a source of accessing funds for such businesses to grow.
Some of the benefits he explained, are; the opportunity for networking, capacity building, financial support as well as exposing Bayelsa State to the international community.
The coordinator of world association of small and medium scale enterprises in Bayelsa State, Mr. Dadiowei Akpoti, assured that by hosting the world, Bayelsans will have the opportunity to meet business mentors, attract investors and build factories, that will boost the return in investments in the state.
