The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the managements of 20 universities over unresolved issues affecting its members.
The union warned that failure to address the outstanding matters within the specified period could lead to industrial action at the affected institutions.
ASUU said the ultimatum followed concerns over the implementation of agreements and conditions governing the welfare and working environment of academic staff.
The union called on the affected universities to engage its representatives and resolve the issues within the 14-day window to prevent disruption of academic activities.
It stressed that its demand was aimed at protecting the interests of lecturers and improving conditions necessary for effective teaching, research and learning.
ASUU urged the university authorities to treat the matter with urgency, warning that failure to respond positively could compel the union to take further action.
The development has raised concerns about possible disruption to academic activities in the affected institutions if the dispute is not resolved before the expiration of the ultimatum.
The union maintained that it remained open to dialogue and would prefer a negotiated resolution of the issues rather than industrial action.
