Former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, on Monday, criticized President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, describing them as a “shambolic bolekaja” approach.
In a statement he personally signed, Atiku accused Tinubu’s administration of relying on what he called a “Tea-plan” that he claimed would only lead to “T-pain.”
He contrasted Tinubu’s policies with his own proposed solutions, highlighting what he described as a lack of coherent planning in the current administration.
“I have taken note of the striking disparity between President Tinubu’s faltering economic policies and the alternatives I have proposed,” Atiku stated.
He expressed hope that the debate would benefit Nigerians, emphasizing his view that Tinubu’s government came into power “devoid of a coherent plan.”
Atiku noted his team’s comprehensive Recovery Plan, which he said incorporated input from Nigerians to ensure an inclusive approach.
“In stark contrast, Tinubu’s only policy response appears to be a national prayer led by the First Lady and the NSA, just a day after I proposed alternative solutions. What a bold strategy,” he quipped.
The former vice president underscored that prayer alone, without diligent labor, would not resolve the economic challenges.
He criticized Tinubu’s policies as “trial-and-error,” which he claimed were responsible for the current economic turmoil.
Recalling his time in government, Atiku noted that Nigeria’s economy grew significantly between 1999 and 2003, reaching an average GDP growth rate of 6.59% under the Obasanjo administration, compared to what he described as the “dismal” 2.8% under Tinubu.
“Enough of the pains of the shambolic bolekaja economic policy prescriptions,” he concluded.
