The media office of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly criticised the spokesperson to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Daniel Bwala.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Atiku’s camp described Bwala’s recent political posture as “opportunistic merchandising of allegiance.”
The statement, signed by Atiku’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, alleged that Bwala had previously approached the Atiku media team with a request to circulate a false narrative against the current administration

.
According to Shaibu, Bwala allegedly asked the team to issue a press statement claiming that President Tinubu and his associates were threatening his life.
“We remain in possession of his message requesting that the Atiku Media Team issue a press statement claiming that President Tinubu and his associates were threatening his life,” Shaibu said.
Shaibu stated that the media team rejected the request, describing it as a frivolous and opportunistic attempt at political theatre.
The statement comes amid reactions to a widely circulated interview involving Bwala and journalist Mehdi Hasan on Al Jazeera.
Atiku’s camp argued that the interview highlighted what it described as the moral implications of dismissing serious national issues as mere political arguments.
Shaibu also criticised Bwala’s defence of the government’s record on insecurity, stating that trivialising the loss of thousands of Nigerian lives over the past two years was unacceptable.
“The interviewer methodically dismantled the talking points he came armed with and exposed the contradictions between his past statements and his present posture. What Nigerians witnessed was the uncomfortable spectacle of a spokesperson struggling to reconcile shifting loyalties with inconvenient facts,” Shaibu said.
