It means ‘the defining spirit or mood of a particular period of history as shown by the ideas and beliefs of the time.’ Therefore, when you are asked to describe the zeitgeist of Nigerian music, few moments would jump out. One of them was the performance D’banj gave at the 2006 Headies Awards, formerly known as HipHop World Awards. Atletico Madrid ensured 2016 ended on a high with a 4-1 victory over Guijuelo in the Copa del Rey on a freezing Tuesday night at the Vicente Calderon. Several fringe players showed they might be ready to contribute come the second half of the season, from which Diego Simeone will take heart, although the 6-0 first-leg cushion may have played a part in that. First-half strikes from Nicolas Gaitan, Angel Correa, Juanfran and Fernando Torres did the damage, and when Raul Ruiz was dismissed for the visitors before the break, Atleti “declared,” to use cricketing parlance. Guijuelo, to their credit,…
One of manager Pep Guardiola’s predecessors at Manchester City, Stuart Pearce, recently spoke of going to see Guardiola while he was the Barcelona coach. “He gave me a great insight into how to be a good manager,” said Pearce. “As we said goodbye and walked away, he turned around and said, ‘By the way, get a Messi in your side.'” Guardiola might not have a Lionel Messi in this Manchester City side, but he does have a David Silva. The Spanish playmaker’s form had rather tailed off last season. He was a peripheral figure who never really recovered from an…

But there’s still room for improvement. An intriguing by-product of the run Conte has presided over is the nullifying effect it has…
