After more than 48 hours of intense battle against Boko Haram fighters, Nigerian troops yesterday took over Bama, the second largest town in Borno State after Maiduguri, the state capital. This brings to 36 the number of towns that have been recaptured from Boko Haram since the commencement of a four-nation military offensive, coordinator of the National Information Centre, Mike Omeri told AFP. The Kogi State government has said that only six of its 21 local government councils can pay 50/60 per cent of workers salaries. The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Abubakar Ainoko, said this in Lokoja. He blamed the situation on the shortfall of N416m in the allocation to the councils from the Federation Account for February.
