Nigeria plans to borrow $945 million (N160.7 billion) from the International Development Association (IDA), an arm of the World Bank, to fund irrigation and drainage projects in the country. $495 million out of the planned debt is meant for irrigation projects in Kano, Sokoto and Zamfara States, while $250 million is meant for urban water projects in Bauchi, Ekiti and Rivers states, and $200 million to improve drainage in Ibadan. An Ikeja High Court in Lagos State yesterday sentenced a first-class graduate from Lead City University, Ibadan, Olakunle Akanni, for defrauding an American woman, Diana Huizenga, of over 12,000 dollars (N1.92million) through an internet love scam. Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo sentenced 23-year-old Akanni to one year imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to the offence during his re-arraignment. One of his accomplices, Adesina Akinsola, 30, was also given a similar sentence by the judge. The Independent National Electoral Commission said the distribution of Permanent Voter Card should commence in all local government areas of Kano, Edo, Plateau, Ogun and Imo states from November 7 to 9.
