The late Lukman, an engineer, served at various time as a Special Adviser on Petroleum and Energy Matters to the President, Minister of Mines, Power and Steel and also served as Secretary General of OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) from 1 January 1995 to 31 December 2000. A cholera outbreak at Kafin Dalawa village in Tudun Wada Local Government Area of Kano State has led to the death of ten persons. Mallam Surajo Muhammed, an official of Isma Medical Initiative, a non-governmental organisation under the aegis of Islamic Movement of Nigeria, said yesterday that a total of 699 patients had so far been treated by the medical team since the outbreak started four days ago in the village. A combined team of security agents destroyed a kidnap gang in Abia on Sunday, killing three members and freeing their victims unhurt. The police in Osun have arrested an operative of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over the death of one Kamaldeen Muritala. A statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by the Force spokesman, ACP Frank Mba, said Muritala, a 32-year-old Islamic teacher, died of fatal stab wounds allegedly inflicted on him by the NSCDC operative. Nigeria’s power generation capacity will drop by 415 megawatts (MW) following the shutdown of the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd (SPDC)-operated 240 metric million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d), Okoloma gas plant which supplies gas molecules to Afam power plant.
