A police officer has been killed and a local market looted after about 200 armed bandits stormed Babanla town in Kwara State on Friday afternoon.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the incident in a post on X on Saturday, stating that the attackers arrived on motorbikes around 1:00 p.m.
“They first attacked the Babanla Police Station, where ASP Adejumo Wasiu, attached to the ACPOL Offa, was shot dead. The attackers also took his AK-47 rifle,” Makama wrote.

Sources cited in the report said the police station was ransacked, but no additional weapons were stolen as others were on charge at the time of the raid.
Following the assault on the police station, the armed group proceeded to the town’s market, where they reportedly looted large quantities of food items and other goods.
A swift response by a joint security team comprising the military, police, vigilantes, and local hunters forced the bandits to retreat, restoring calm to the community.
Authorities have yet to confirm whether there were any civilian casualties in the attack.
