Bode George, the former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on elders and stakeholders of the party to intervene in the political crisis in Rivers State.
In a statement issued on Friday, George warned that the crisis in Rivers State could escalate into a national conflagration.
He cautioned President Bola Tinubu not to disregard the threat by some lawmakers in the state House of Assembly to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

George emphasized that the PDP lawmakers who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have automatically lost their seats according to Section 109 (1) (g) of the 1999 Constitution, which states that a member of the House of Assembly shall vacate his seat if he defects to another party.
Therefore, he argued, they are not in a position to threaten Governor Fubara.
He called on all stakeholders to take action, stating that the state belongs to the PDP and any threat to impeach the governor is futile.
George also referenced historical events like ‘Operation Wetie’ in the defunct Western Region, which eventually led to the end of the First Republic in 1966, warning against actions that could lead to a breach of peace and breakdown of law and order in the country.
He urged members of the PDP’s Board of Trustees (BoT) to act swiftly to resolve the crisis, emphasizing the need for all parties involved to consider the collective interests of Nigerians and avoid provocative statements that could further escalate tensions.
George concluded by calling for an immediate halt to any move that could undermine democracy, stressing that it is time for everyone to prioritize peace and the stability of the nation.
