Boko Haram Kills 51 In Attack On Borno Villages

Terrorists kill 51, injure 12, raze village in Borno attacks

51 persons were yesterday killed in separate attacks, by members of the Boko Haram Islamist sect in Borno State.

The highest death toll was recorded in Gurmushi village, Marte Local Government Area of Borno State, where the terrorists killed 42 persons and set the entire village ablaze, with many of the villagers displaced and have fled to Cameroon to take refuge. Some were also said to be receiving treatment at a Cameroon hospital.

Marte, a border community with Chad and Cameroon, had in recent times witnessed deadly attacks. It is about 160 km north of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

According to a resident, Mallam Abacha Umar, “Gunmen, suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists, invaded our village (Gurmushi) killing over 40 people, while 12 others sustained injuries. They also set the village on fire.”

Another resident, who said that the gunmen stormed the village in the early hours of yesterday and shot sporadically, killing dozens of people and setting houses ablaze added: “I counted over 40 corpses, while the village was razed down completely and most of us ran into the bush for safety.”

Nine people were also killed by insurgents yesterday morning on Amuda and Arbokko border villages, with dozens of houses and shops set on fire.

The Boko Haram members were said to have stormed the villages in Toyota Hilux vehicles, motorcycles and an Armoured Personnel Carrier.

State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Gideon Jubrin could not be reached for confirmation at press time, but a top security source confirmed the two incidents to Vanguard.
