More than 1,500 residents of five Borno villages have abandoned their homes and fled to Maiduguri for fear of attacks by the Islamic militants, Boko Haram.
The fleeing residents of Yauri1, Yauri2, Gambori, Mainari and Koreri villages, currently taking refuge at Dalari Primary School in Dalari quarters, on Maiduguri/Bama road, are, however, in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
Many of the displaced persons comprised women, children and the aged and were looking tired and hungry.
Speaking to Nigerian Tribune in Maiduguri, 81-year-old Muhammadu Adamu, who had lived for over 30 years in Lagos before coming back home to Yauri1, said “since we knew our village may be next to be attacked, we moved down here for safety.”
