Former Head of State General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), says fight against corruption and insecurity will top his agenda in his bid to become Nigeria’s next president, describing the federal government as “unthinking”.
“Since 1999, (the) PDP has presided over our country’s decline. Nigeria, in my experience, has never been so divided, so polarised by an unthinking government hell-bent on ruling and stealing,” he said.
He added that corruption had become widespread in the country and the country is now known worldwide as “the home of corruption.”
Officially launching his campaign, Buhari said he was contesting for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a party he said was committed to changing Nigeria. He vowed to improve the performance of the country, noting that its over-reliance on oil and gas has affected other sectors that could have helped the country’s economic growth.
The 71-year-old said the protection of lives and properties was very important to the APC, a party he said was irked by the campaign of violence by Islamist sect Boko Haram.
The APC primary election will hold this December, as the party seeks the best candidate to fly its flag in the 2015 presidential election. So far, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar appear to be Buhari’s biggest competition for the party’s ticket.
