OTTAWA, Canada, February 22, 2014/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today released the following statement:
“Canada condemns in the strongest possible terms the attack today against the presidential palace in Mogadishu, which was claimed by Al Shabaab. This attack killed a number of people, including worshippers who were attending Friday prayers.
“On behalf of all Canadians, I express my deepest condolences to the families and friends of those killed in this senseless attack and wish a prompt recovery to the injured.
“Amongst those killed was a Canadian citizen, Mohamoud Abdulle, who had returned to his native Somalia and was working with the Somali prime minister. His death reminds us all of the great risks and sacrifices Canadians take around the world in support of greater peace and security.
“Canada stands with the Somali people in their efforts to build a peaceful and prosperous Somalia.”
