On this day, exactly 5 years ago, March 24, 2011, death struck in the Nigerian entertainment industry and took along a young bright star.
Fast-rising comedian, Chijioke John popularly called CD John died at St Nicholas Hospital, in Lagos Island after a terrible car crash.
It’s been 5 long years, and our correspondent reached out to Harrysong who was a close friend to the late comedian.
Harrysong tells us, ‘Words will fail me to start from the beginning. CD John was my best friend and even in spirit, till now, I miss him. He was a super talented comedian and he was blessed with a great personality’.
He continued to say, ‘his death has motivated me to work harder and stay closer to God, and I know he’s proud of me. CD my nigga, Love forever G’.
CD John will mostly be remembered for his funny Christian choruses – a unique style where he messes around with the lyrics of popular songs; presenting his own account of how different Nigerian tribes would deliver the lyrics. With a superb voice, growing repertoire and audience control; he was set to become a big player in the competitive stand-up comedy scene. Until death put a stop to all that promise.
