Everton are considering a move for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling, sources have said.
Smalling’s long-term future at Old Trafford has been the subject of conjecture, after sources said earlier this week United would be open to offers for the centre-back this summer.
Smalling is currently one of the longest-serving players at United, but he could find himself pushed down the pecking order at Old Trafford next season if new players arrive this summer.
Smalling’s current deal at United expires in 2019 and as yet there have no now talks over a new deal.
Sources said Everton are closely monitoring Smalling’s situation at Old Trafford, and they sent scouts to watch the defender against Brighton last Saturday in United’s 2-0 win in the FA Cup.
Everton are in the market for defensive reinforcements this summer after a disappointing campaign this term.
