Nicolas Petro, son of the president of Colombia, has been taken into custody.
On Saturday, police in Spain arrested Nicolas on suspicion of money laundering and ill-gotten gain.
President Gustavo Petro verified the news by saying Nicolas and his ex-wife Daysuris Vasquez were taken into police custody.
The 37-year-old and Vasquez were abducted from the port city of Barranquilla and taken to the country’s capital of Bogota.
When asked about the situation, Petro said he would not participate in his son’s prosecution in court.
He wished success and power for his son. I pray that he uses this time to grow and learn from his mistakes.
“As a human being and a father, it breaks my heart to witness such acts of self-destruction.”
