Authorities at Babura Local Government Area in Jigawa on Sunday said that 64,700 children in the area had been immunised against polio.
Information Officer of the council, Malam Sulaiman Doro, made this disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.
Doro said that the children were immunised in the last exercise in the area, adding that the figure was obtained from the National Programme on Immunisation (NPI) records in the area.
He explained that the exercise was successful in the area, and that it was supported by traditional and religious leaders in the area.
According to Doro, Alhaji Sammani Andu, Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the council, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the immunisation and commended NPI for a job.
He said that the council would continue to support the programme and other health-related issues in the area.
