A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday overruled an attempt by the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, to prevent the Department of State Services (DSS) from tendering a flash drive containing video clips in which he allegedly described President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.”
The court also admitted screenshots of tweets made by Sowore and the reactions they generated on social media.
The video recording, said to have been made in August 2025, was played in open court as counsel to the DSS, Akinlolu Kehinde, SAN, led the first prosecution witness, Cyril Nosike, an operative of the service, in evidence before Justice Mohammed Umar.

The prosecution further tendered Sowore’s social media posts shared on his X handle and Meta, formerly known as Facebook, where he allegedly referred to the President as a “criminal,” alongside reactions to the posts and a certificate of compliance.
Justice Umar admitted the exhibits into evidence after counsel for the defendant, Marshal Abubakar, reserved his objection until the stage of final written addresses.
Following the evidence-in-chief of the prosecution witness, Abubakar applied for an adjournment to enable the defence to study the witness’s statement and other documents earlier served on them.
The judge subsequently adjourned the matter until January 27 for the cross-examination of the first prosecution witness and continuation of hearing.
Sowore is the sole defendant in the amended charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/484/2025, which was filed on December 5.
