A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday struck out a suit seeking to disqualify President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2015 presidential election.
The suit was based on the argument that Mr. Jonathan had taken the oath of office twice, and was by law ineligible for a third, should he win.
It would be recalled that Jonathan took oath of office as president in 2010 following the demise of President Umaru Yar’Adua. He again took the oath of office following his victory at the 2011 presidential election.
However, while delivering judgment on the matter earlier today, the court quashed the case and awarded N50,000 cost to the president, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
