On Friday, the governorship election petition tribunal in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, denied the case filed by Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, the candidate for governor of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
You may remember that Senator Omo-Agege filed a challenge to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Sheriff Oborevwori’s victory in the governorship election held on March 18, 2023.
Omo-Agege’s petition was deemed without merit by the court presided over by Justice A.C. Ahuchaogu.

Omo-Agege’s communications adviser, Sunny Areh, released a statement in which the candidate swiftly responded that he would be appealing the election tribunal’s decision to reject his petition.
He mentioned that he had instructed his legal team to appeal the tribunal’s decision at the appellate level.
Omo-Agege claims the appellate court would examine the case objectively, looking for weaknesses that the lower court justices overlooked.
After today’s ruling by the governorship election tribunal upholding Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s election as governor of Delta State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate and former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has instructed his legal team to immediately proceed with an appeal.
Senator Omo-Agege claimed that the Tribunal did not take into account the fatal defects in the governorship election held on March 18, 2023, which made the declaration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner impossible.
“It goes without saying that the Tribunal worked in extremely difficult conditions. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s official tally of legitimate votes was disregarded despite the overwhelming evidence against the candidate.
The Tribunal’s ruling is flawed, but I respect it. I am confident that the Court of Appeal will analyze these problems objectively, something the Tribunal did not do.
Therefore, I have instructed my legal team to immediately go to the Court of Appeal and keep fighting to protect the integrity of the people’s ballots.
