In March 2015, Toyin Aimakhu announced a reality series titled “Keeping up with Toyin Aimakhu,” which would supposedly focus on her everyday activities.
It’s few weeks to March 2017, officially two years since she made the announcement, and the actress is yet to debut or postpone the release of a series which she had described as ‘the biggest reality series.’
In 2015, while fans were awaiting the release of the supposed next big thing on TV, Aimakhu launched a YouTube channel (KUWTA) a channel via which she shared her ‘leisure videos’ – mostly unscripted videos of the actress.
Following the leisure videos, the actress launched a comedy series on YouTube, with the first episode titled “Oga Police.”
While her leisure videos and comedy series were interesting, they were not what the actress had promised her viewers.
As at the time of the announcement, Aimakhu had enough drama and content in her life to create the best reality TV show she had promised. From her divorce to her relationship with the controversial Seun Egbegbe, fans were in serious need of the real Toyin Aimakhu on their screen.
Weeks into her controversial presence in the media as a result of her failed relationship with Egbegbe, the actress suddenly promised to keep her private life ‘private.’
It was at that moment that we realized that a Toyin Aimakhu reality show may never make it to our screens. Weeks later, the KUWTA YouTube channel was deleted, and every leisure video and comedy series became a thing of the past.
Currently, the actress is working on the third installment of her popular movie “Alakada.” A star-studded movie which the actress says will ‘rule the cinema in 2017.’
Another actress who has failed to deliver her promise is Mercy Johnson. On October 31, 2016, the actress took to Instagram on Monday, October 31, 2016, to announce a web talk show, “Mercy!!! Marriage, Cooking and Kids.”
The talk show was supposedly created for young marriages, singles and teenagers, and was to make its debut in December, 2016.
In anticipation of the show, the actress shared series of teasers including a two-part autobiography in which she shared known and unknown things about herself, career and family with her fans.
On December 2, 2016, the actress released a 12-minute plus video which is supposedly a first episode of the web talk show. The episode focused on the actress’ day as an actress, wife and mother, and kicked off with the actress preparing breakfast, then heading to location, and finally returning to her home and kids.
Two months since the show made its debut and there have been no subsequent episodes – Mercy has kept her numerous fans waiting.
The delay in the release of the above-mentioned series or the failure to communicate a change of plans by the creators to their audience is just one of the numerous problems of the Nigerian entertainment sector.
Toyin Aimakhu and Mercy Johnson teased projects worth anticipating. Months and years since the announcements, these two A-List actresses have failed to live up to their promise.
