Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has said that rumors saying Mexico international, Hector Herrera will play for Atletico next season are premature.
Reports recently broke that that the 28-year-old Hector had agreed to ply his trade at Atleti when his contract is up with Porto this summer, but Mr Enrique begs to differ.
His words to ESPN, “It’s not true or false that Hector Herrera is going to play for Atletico Madrid,”
“Right now I can’t say anything because he’s not an Atletico player, although we always want great players.
“Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.”
He also revealed that the manager, Diego Simeone is the only one in charge of incomings and outgoings in the club and he is yet to speak about Hector Herrera.
He continued, “I’ve not spoken with him about that player,” Cerezo said.
“When there isn’t even any contact and they say that he will be going to a team, [the media] created false expectations surrounding the player.
“Whilst a contract isn’t signed, getting ahead of yourselves isn’t good for us or you.”
