Donnie C, Rising Inspirational & Gospel Recording Artist, Puts His Unique, Soulful Spin on His Latest Single,

Philadelphia, PA, April 07, 2014 –(PR.com)– “I Won’t Complain”, the Gospel standard, is the first single from Donnie C’s upcoming, as-yet-untitled album. It is Donnie C’s new take on an old Gospel classic but it still retains the same message of hope and faith during one’s trials and the blessings waiting after the storm is over. “I Won’t Complain” was made famous by Reverend Paul Jones and it was written by Reverend Don Johnson. Donnie C (born Donnell Charlton), a native of Portsmouth, Virginia, is an accomplished singer-songwriter and keyboard player.

“I was inspired to redo ‘I Won’t Complain’ because of my mother-in-law, Evangelist Thaila Austin. I saw how certain things in her life such as being a first lady of a church to being a mother to being a supportive rock and friend had an impact on her. She is so transparent and has faced many obstacles: losing her job of many years, getting remarried to a Pastor, being ostracized and treated unfairly by people in the church, becoming a victim of identity theft, and losing her home and everything she had ever owned in a fire. During all of these trials, she did not once complain. She has remained faithful and fruitful while still helping others. ‘I Won’t Complain’ is her favorite song so I recorded it in her honor. I am giving her flowers while she can still smell them,” Donnie C states.

In 2013, Donnie C released the EP, Shelter, which received accolades from the Gospel music industry and abroad. “Shelter From The Storm”, a single from Shelter, remained in the top 100 of the BDS and Mediabase Gospel charts for more than 8 weeks. The esteemed Dr. Bobby Jones, of “Dr. Bobby Jones Gospel” on BET, stated that “Shelter From The Storm” was a hit. The single was also added to various internet radio stations based in the United Kingdom (U.K.) and also received press attention in the U.K. as well.

Donnie C was very blessed to have Bernie McLean, a well respected record label executive, take an interest in his talent and musical abilities, that resulted in his signing to a national digital distribution deal via Indie Charts, a division of Kingdom Records. Kingdom Records is the home of widely successful gospel group, Shekinah Glory Ministry, who are known for their hit song, “Yes.”

Growing up in a town where drugs were evident and poverty was visible, Donnie C managed to channel his energy into creativity. Through the hardships of life and the different challenges and hurdles Donnie C survived, he maintained his love of music.

His first exposure to music, at an early age of nine years-old, was singing in the St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church Choir (Portsmouth, Virginia) under the direction of his great aunt Fairfield Jackson, who nurtured his gift with love and sternness. As Donnie C’s passion for music and singing grew, his great aunt Corrien Porter asked him to sing with the family group, The Gospel Swannetts. The group-performed songs like “Jesus, when Trouble Burdens Me Down” and “Well Done”, during the early nineties.

Being born in a family of talented people ignited Donnie C’s passion to pursue a career in music and led to his passion for songwriting. The first song he wrote was “Happiness Is Just a Step Away.” He followed up that song with “Never Change Your Heart’s Desire” and “It’s My Season.” All these songs of empowerment expressed his hope for a better life.

In 2013, Donnie C appeared on the esteemed “Dr. Bobby Jones Showcase” during the St. Louis Announcers Guild, a Gospel Workshop of America affiliate. Also, Donnie C has had the pleasure of performing up and down the east coast for various talent showcases, charitable events, and venues including: The Kessler Institute (West Orange New Jersey), The YWCA (Newark, New Jersey), and Edison Job Corps (Edison, New Jersey). Over the years, Donnie C has been highlighted in many events in the south including the International Music Festival and Shakespeare Festival (Nashville, Tennessee).

In a world of uncertainty, the refreshing music of Donnie C uniquely fuses the Neo-Soul and Gospel music genres into a powerful music of love and happiness. He performs music that brings serenity to the soul and tranquility to the mind.
