Former NFL star Aaron Hernandez was whiling away his lonely days and nights behind bars listening to Rihanna, Drake and The Weeknd in the lead up to his suicide, Dailymail.com can reveal.
Prison documents lay bare the musical tastes of the 27-year-old ex-football star, who was found dead on April 19 after hanging himself in his cell with a bed sheet at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley, Massachusetts.
Hernandez’s playlist consisted of mostly R&B and hip-hop songs with a common theme of sex, love, and feelings of hurt.
The former Patriots tight end had downloaded songs from Rihanna’s second album A Girl Like Me, including the languishing ballad ‘Unfaithful’ – the popular 2006 song in which the singer expresses guilt for cheating on her partner.
He also jammed to the more upbeat, reggae-inspired number, ‘Selfish Girl’.
But the majority of songs included explicit, and rather plaintive tracks by artists Drake, The Weeknd, and PartyNextDoor.
Hernandez bought two songs from Drake’s 2016 hit album Views – ‘U With Me’ and ‘With You’ – two love songs about relationship troubles and trust issues with women.
Other downloads on Hernandez’s playlist were from Canadian recording artist PartyNextDoor, including the dark love song ‘Problems & Selfless’.
He also bought a more contemporary mainstream hit, a remixed version of the sexy song, ‘Earned It’ by The Weekend, from Fifty Shades of Grey.
Records show that Hernandez purchased 977 tracks in total and that he was able to listen to the music on a Keefe Maxx Player – a secure technologies device specifically designed for inmates.
