The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has read the riot act to those in possession of fake driver’s license, saying they will henceforth be prosecuted if they are caught.
The corps marshal and chief executive of FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi, who gave this warning in Abuja at a one day training programme for all security agencies on verification of national driver’s license and vehicle number plate on Tuesday, said “it is a criminal matter” and this prosecution will help to checkmate the high rate of fake driver’s licence, which is now prevalent among motorists.
According to Mr. Oyeyemi, the essence of the training was to ensure that all security agencies access the database of the FRSC to authenticate driver’s license and number plate without having to call the corps.
He further stated that “the essence is that those who give two passport photographs to some people are just wasting their time because it is fake. The driver’s license today is N6, 950, why give N10,000 or N15,000 to someone to give you a fake license? Is that not ignorance and stupidity on the part of those drivers? So, I think we need to get it right.
“But for Nigerians, there are bound to be bad eggs, so that is why we are tackling it already, it is not out of hand”.
