The Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi, has lifted the visitation restriction on Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), following significant agitation.
Kanu’s legal team, led by counsel Aloy Ejimakor, recently visited him at the DSS facility in Abuja. Ejimakor noted that the intervention of House of Representatives member Obi Aguocha, representing Ikwuano, Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency, played a pivotal role in securing the DSS decision.
Ejimakor posted on X: “Today, on the directives of the DG DSS, the #MnkLegalTeam conducted the first successful visitation with MAZI NNAMDI KANU since Sept. 27. Mazi Ndidi Awurum, who came from the US, was with us.
Our persistent legal actions & Hon Obi Aguocha’s intervention were crucial to this outcome.”
The DSS had previously blocked Kanu from meeting with his legal team following a disturbance he caused at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where he demanded the recusal of Justice Binta Nyako from his case.
In response, the court ordered the DSS to lift the restriction and warned of potential jail time for the DSS Director General if its directive was ignored.
During the restriction, lawmaker Aguocha physically visited Kanu on October 24, 2024, at the DSS facility.
After the meeting, Aguocha stated that he had successfully resolved the issues surrounding the restrictions imposed on Kanu by the DSS.
