The Nigerian Government on Friday debunked rumours making the rounds that bathing with hot water and salt solution is an effective antidote against the Ebola virus infection.
The social media late Thursday and early Friday went ‘wild’ with information that bathing hot water, which contained salt solution, could prevent the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
One of such messages shared through a social media chat platform, WhatsApp, and seen by our correspondent, read: “They say Ebola in Abuja. So pls take your bath with cold water and addition of enough salt inside the water. Pls bath your children as well ma/sir”.
However, a statement signed by the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku’s Chief Press Secretary, Joseph Mutah, said the speculation that salt and hot water solution cures the deadly viral disease is only a rumour.
Maku maintained that there was no cure yet for the disease. He urged Nigerians to, however, maintain maximum environmental and personal hygiene to guard against contracting the deadly virus.
