- Terminates some for non-performance
The Ekiti State government after its maiden executive council on Monday in Ado disclosed that it has awarded the contract for the construction of three new roads in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital to ease traffic congestion that is becoming the order of the day.
The Commissioner for Works, Mr. Kayode Oso gave the information while briefing the press on some of the major decisions taken by the executive council in their inaugural meeting held at the EXCO Chambers in the office of the governor. The roads are, the road linking Mathew Street from Ijigbo Roundabout to the Federal Polytechnic Junction at Odo Ado; the road linking Opopogbooro along Iworoko road with the Park View Hotel Junction, State Housing/ Are-Afao road and the one linking the Ado-Iworoko Road from The Head Construction Company to the Trade Fair Complex along Ado-Iyin Road.
The Works Commissioner who reiterated that the welfare of the entire Ekiti people remained the policy trust of the Fayose led government, explained that work would commence in earnest on the road projects and be completed by the second quarter of next year.
According to Oso, “What informed the immediate re-award of Opopogbooro-Park View road which was revoked and the two new other ones was the believed that, these roads when completed, will not only decongest traffic within the Ado metropolis but will also boost the socio-economy activities of the people living in those areas”.
Oso said the council also terminated the contract for some road projects because contractors handling them failed to perform as expected.
The roads are , Ikere to the Ondo State boarder, Awo – Ara – Ijero road which is 14.6 kilometres and Opopogbooro Park View road
which is 3.6 kilometers.
