The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Saturday’s 22nd September 2018 Osun State governorship election “inconclusive”.
The INEC Returning Officer, Joseph Afuwape said that since the difference between the two leading parties was just 353 votes but the number of cancelled votes was 3,5498, no winner had emerged.
Announcing the results on Sunday afternoon, Afuwape said Senator Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled 254,699, while his closest contender, Isiaka Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had 254,345 votes. Senator Iyiola Omisore of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) polled 128,049 votes to place a distant third.
“It is not possible to declare any party as winner,” the returning officer said.
He urged party agents to wait for a few minutes to get the date for a rerun between the two leading candidates.
