Members of the 2015 Batch ‘A’ Youths Corps members posted to Ekiti State have been advised to see themselves as instruments of change during their one year mandatory Youths Service Scheme.
The Governor of Ekiti State Mr. Ayodele Fayose gave the advice at the closing ceremony of the 3 weeks orientation course at the National Youths Service Corp (NYSC) permanent orientation camp in Ise/Orun/Emure Ekiti.
Mr. Fayose, who was represented by the Deputy governor Dr. Kolapo Olusola charged the corps members to apply the vast potentials garnered both in their schools and the orientation camp to entrench significantly development in their host communities and areas of their primary assignments positively.
He said that the establishment of the NYSC Scheme over forty years ago by the defunct administration of General Yakubu Gowon was aimed at fostering unity, enhancing economic development and promoting common ties among Nigerian youths; which the present crops of corps members should uphold.
According to the governor, the youths were admonished to continue to live up to the ideals of the scheme, as well as considering themselves to be morally bound to make the best use of every opportunity to positively contribute their quota to the development of Ekiti State.
While commending the Corps members for their display of maturity, obedience, discipline and commitment since their arrival at the camp, Mr. Fayose said that they should form volunteer groups to mobilize, sensitize and create public awareness against social vices and deadly diseases prevalent in the society.
He also called on them to embrace the skills acquisition and entrepreneurship developmental programmes provided under the scheme to tackle the challenges of unemployment confronting the present generation.
In his remarks, the state coordinator of the National Youths Service Corps, Mr. Tobias Ibeh commended the Corps members for their outstanding performance during their 3 weeks stay in the Camp.
Mr. Ibeh charged them to conduct themselves peacefully throughout their stay as well as to impact positively on the lives of the people in the areas of their primary assignment.
