A delegation of the Ekiti State government led by the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Kolapo Olusola had visited the headquarters of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) in Benin, Edo State to fashion out a modality that will ensure an improvement in the electricity supply to the state so that the people would enjoy a worthwhile power supply for their hard earn money.
Dr. Olusola at a crucial meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of the BEDC, Mrs. Funke Osibodu and the management team of the company said stable electricity supply to the state is vital to the socio-economic development of Ekiti State beside the fact that regular power supply is one of the campaign promises of Governor Ayodele Fayose to Ekiti people while canvassing for their votes during.
He highlighted some of the challenges confronting power supply in the state to include the need to energize some of the transformers provided by the state government to some communities as well as making necessary repairs on some faulty transformers.
The Deputy Governor who tasked BEDC to ensure that enough electricity pre-paid metres are made available to consumers so they could pay for the exact power consumed instead of the estimated billing also asked the company to provide new meters to all the Water Dams in the State so that Ekiti People could also pay for the exact volume of water used.
Dr. Olusola also called for the input of the electricity distribution company into the Law of the state that will provide legal platform to punish electricity cable theft and other related vandalism in the state.
In her response, the CEO of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, Mrs. Funke Osibodu appreciated the visit of the Deputy Governor which she said will definitely foster a more cordial partnership between the state and the company.
She promised to ensure that all the challenges pointed out by the government and the requests are attended to without any delay, adding that the company has been relentless in its efforts to ensure regular electricity supply to all the states within its jurisdiction.
Mrs. Osibodu who informed the Deputy Governor that 600 pole transformers would soon be provided for Ekiti state to boost electricity supply in the state explained that the pole transformers are easy to maintain and will service small communities.
