The Ekiti State Government has revealed plans to introduce the Land Use Charge (LUC) starting from 2024.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji assured residents that the property tax would be implemented progressively and would not pose a significant burden.
Stakeholders in the state have voiced their support for the initiative and pledged their willingness to comply with the charge.

These sentiments were expressed during a one-day dialogue on Tax for Service in Ekiti State organized by the New Initiative for Social Development (NISD) in collaboration with the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room in Ado-Ekiti.
During the dialogue, various stakeholders, including market women, hoteliers, saw millers, and others, urged the government to address issues such as multiple taxation and other obstacles affecting their businesses.
Mr. Bisi Adesua, the Director-General of the Signage and Advertisement Agency, explained the payment processes for signage rates and what constitutes advertising in the state.
Additionally, Mr. Ayodeji Adarabierin, the Senior Special Assistant on Tax and Revenue Matters, emphasized the government’s commitment to streamlining tax payment processes for the people of the state.
Professor Christopher Oluwadare, speaking at the event, emphasized the need for tax and rates collection to be contingent on transparent and accountable processes, with clear justifications for tax payments.
The Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (IRS) reported that the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has surpassed N1 billion.
Furthermore, it was announced that state officials would meet with newly elected local council chairmen after their swearing-in to devise strategies to prevent the duplication of taxes in the state.
Feyisayo Olorunfemi, the Programme Officer of NISD, called on stakeholders to collaborate with the government in enhancing revenue generation for the state.
