The Ogun State Government has concluded plans to introduce a new programme tagged “Government Envelopment Concept”.
The concept is part of measures to further beautify and ensure proper re-alignment of physical structures under the State’s Urban Renewal Programme.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning, Mr. Stephen Adewolu made this known this morning in Abeokuta during a chat with newsmen on structural development in the State, affirming that under the concept, ancestral family houses across the State would be renovated.
Mr. Adewolu explained that such buildings would have their roofs, windows and doors changed and where necessary, provided with new toilets. He added that markets in such communities would also be restructured and equally provided with toilets to prevent open defecation in order to avoid communicable diseases.
Maintaining that government derives no pleasure from indiscriminate demolition of houses, the Permanent Secretary revealed that under the “build right” programme, it would soon introduce a plan to reduce demolition to the barest minimum.
He said under the programme which would last for three months, owners of such illegal residential structures would be made to pay reduced fees to obtain necessary documents that they should have had before construction commenced.
Adewolu however warned that those who erect buildings under high tension wires, waterways roads and other locations that could obstruct town planning regulations or be injurious would not benefit from the gesture.
