African champions, ES Setif have won the 2014/2015 Algerian Premier League title, the seventh time in their history.
Setif, holders of the CAF Champions League made certain of the title after a 2-0 win over CS Constantine in the penultimate match of the season last Saturday (23 May 2015) at home.
Striker Mohamed Benyettou and Central African Republic-born midfielder Eudes Dagoulou’s first half strikes was all the Black Eagles needed to seal their first ever league crown since the 2012/2013 season.
Setif now have 48 points, four more than rivals, MO Bejaia, who are guaranteed at least three points in the event of victory in the ultimate match of the season next Friday (29 May 2015). Of 29 matches, the northeastern city-based club has managed 13 wins, nine draws and seven losses.
It is the second major title for Setif this year, after beating Egyptian giants, Al Ahly to the CAF Super Cup last February.
Meanwhile, the relegation battle will go the wire with CAF Champions League group phase side, MC El Eulma fighting for survival in the 16-club league, so is ASO Chlef. Bottom-placed USM Bel Abbes are sure to participate in the second-tier of Algerian football next season.
