The Ese-Odo Progressive Forum, in collaboration with the Ondo State Democratic Vanguard, has condemned activist-politician Omoyele Sowore over his recent criticisms of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, describing them as baseless and politically motivated.
Sowore’s Claims Against the IGP
Sowore, who was recently arrested and arraigned by the Nigeria Police Force, has repeatedly referred to Egbetokun as an “illegal IGP,” insisting that his tenure expired in 2024.
Forum’s Response
At a press conference in Akure on Monday, the convener of the group, Comrade Olusegun Victor, alongside Akintunde Sowore, accused the activist of acting on behalf of desperate politicians and politically exposed officers within the police force.
The group argued that these attacks were aimed at destabilizing the administration of President Bola Tinubu and undermining national security.
Statement from the Groups
In their official statement, the groups asserted:
“We, the members of the Ese-Odo Progressive Forum, in partnership with the Ondo State Democratic Vanguard, have gathered today to respond to the baseless and malicious attacks on the Inspector General of Police by Mr. Omoyele Sowore.
“His repeated attacks on IGP Egbetokun are not only baseless but also sponsored by desperate politicians and politically exposed officers who seek to destabilize the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
“We urge Mr. Sowore and his supporters to reconsider their actions, retrace their steps, and desist from further undermining our national security. Their actions only serve to ridicule and destabilize the progress we are making as a nation.”
The forum further emphasized that Sowore’s stance does not reflect the values of the people of Ondo State, particularly those in Ese-Odo Local Government, who are known for their commitment to peace and progress.
“We stand by our security forces and our leadership, and we will continue to support the efforts of IGP Kayode Egbetokun and the Nigerian Police Force in making our country safer for all.”
The groups reaffirmed their commitment to national stability, urging all stakeholders to avoid actions that could create unnecessary political tension.
