    Ethiopian Commodity Exchange Appoints New CEO

    ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, May 7, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Board of Directors Office of the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (http://www.ecx.com.et) today announced the appointment of Ato Ermias Eshetu as Chief Executive Officer of the ECX.

    Ato Ermias has held a range of leadership positions locally and abroad. Since 2007, he has served as an Executive Management Member at Zemen Bank, most recently as Vice President for Marketing & Corporate Services. He received his Masters in International Business from Manchester School of Management and a Bachelor degree in Computation at UMIST, in the United Kingdom. Over the past 20 years, Ermias has worked at multi-national organization such as IBM, Alcatel, Orange and MicroStrategy.

    Ermias’s background in Software Engineering and as a Principal Consultant in Business Intelligence systems has allowed him to acquire unique skills specializing in the ability to integrate real business challenges with practical information technology lead solutions.

    With his wide-ranging professional experience abroad in Europe and the United States, and most recently here in Ethiopia at Zemen Bank, Ato Ermias brings technical and managerial knowhow fitting to take the ECX to new levels of performance and growth.

    “I believe in a practical application of technology and market-based institutions in our path to transform the agricultural based economy. Through technology, strong partnership with the private sector, and enhanced exposure to international best practices, I shall aim to ensure that ECX remains relevant and continues to deliver new innovations” said Ato Ermias, the incoming CEO of ECX.

    Ato Shimelis Habtewold, Chief Compliance Officer, who has also been serving as an interim CEO since January 2014, will continue on his role as Chief Compliance Officer as of January 1, 2015.
