Former Benue State Governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam, has announced his candidacy for the national chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He aims to complete the tenure of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, who was ousted and hails from Benue and the North Central region.
Suswam made this known during a meeting with the Benue North East PDP expanded caucus in Katsina-Ala on Friday.
He stated that he has consulted with and received the blessings of key party leaders in the state, including former governor Samuel Ortom, Senator David Mark, Senator Abba Moro, and the State Working Committee (SWC) of the PDP.
Emphasizing the constitutional provision and precedence that give the North Central, especially Benue, the right to complete Senator Ayu’s truncated tenure, Suswam highlighted his commitment to the party.
He pledged to unify and mobilize support for the PDP in preparation for the 2027 elections.
Calling for reconciliation among party members following past electoral disputes, Suswam urged unity to propel the PDP forward, emphasizing the party’s role as the foremost vehicle for Nigeria’s development.
Support for Suswam’s bid came from prominent PDP figures, including Chief Mrs. Margaret Icheen, a member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT); Rt. Hon. Titus Uba, the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 general election; Hon. Maurice Tsav, the PDP North Central secretary, and others.
