The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged to bolster security measures and improve infrastructure in Abuja, assuring residents of a safer and more developed capital city.
Wike made this commitment during a media briefing after a closed-door session with senators at the National Assembly in Abuja.
The Senate had invited the minister and the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, to discuss security strategies for the territory.

According to Wike, the meeting was productive, with senators acknowledging the significant improvement in security in the FCT.
He highlighted the ongoing development projects in Abuja, describing the city as a construction hub.
“The FCT should expect improved security and more infrastructure.
You can see what is going on in the FCT. It has been turned into a construction site,” Wike stated.
He also mentioned recent administrative reforms in the FCT, such as the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission and the appointment of Permanent Secretaries, aimed at enhancing governance in the territory.
Regarding security challenges, Wike acknowledged the existence of crime in society but emphasized the importance of mitigating its impact.
He noted that some kidnapping incidents are orchestrated internally, citing cases where domestic staff conspire to kidnap their employer’s child.
Wike highlighted the arrest of two notorious kidnappers who had been terrorizing the FCT, leading to a reduction in kidnapping incidents.
He acknowledged that while total eradication of criminal activities might be unattainable, efforts are being made to limit their occurrence and ensure the safety of residents.
“We are not saying we have gotten to where we want to be, but we are doing a lot, and people should acknowledge that what used to be is not what we are seeing now,” Wike concluded, underscoring the government’s commitment to enhancing security and infrastructure in the FCT.
