Nyesom Wike, the newly appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has pledged to end open grazing in the nation’s capital city after discussing the issue with relevant parties.
He clarified that herders are free to raise their livestock outside the city limits, but that they are no longer permitted to graze on the grasses that are part of the city’s aesthetic.
On Monday in Abuja, the former governor of Rivers State made these remarks upon taking office as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Since cows are not permitted within the city limits, he stated, “We will confer with the herdsmen to determine how we will prohibit [open grazing].
The grasses are beyond the city limits, so that’s where they may be. The city grasses were put there to make it look better. They wouldn’t eat something like that.
So, let’s talk about it. Consider this: if a visitor were to visit the [presidential] Villa and see between 20,000 and 40,000 goats, how would they react?
Furthermore, Wike has promised to shut down all black marketplaces in the FCT.
We will not stand for the widespread market problem. I get that you’re going through a rough patch, but that doesn’t give you license to make other people’s lives a living hell. If you want to satisfy your hunger, you must do so in a lawful manner.
Under the canopy of a city’s trees, vendors set up shop under their umbrellas. Uncertainty arose as a result of these factors. We can’t let that happen,” he emphasized.
