KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ONTARIO–(Marketwired – July 28, 2014) – D2L (Desire2Learn), the EdTech company that created Brightspace, the world’s first truly integrated learning platform (ILP), today announced that Ferrum College-a private liberal arts college in Virginia-has selected Brightspace to improve students’ overall success and engagement by transforming their online learning experiences.

With the Brightspace platform, Ferrum College will have a mobile-ready learning environment that can be easily personalized to provide students with the tools they need to learn whenever and wherever they can. The platform combines sophisticated technology and powerful assessment capabilities with the social and collaborative tools today’s students expect to utilize at the college level.

“Brightspace was the most advanced yet easy-to-use solution we reviewed. Its rich capabilities in online learning, community sharing and analytics are a perfect fit for the unique needs of our institution,” said Gail Summer, Ed.D., Vice President for Academic Affairs at Ferrum College. “The company’s technology will empower our students to take advantage of a more flexible but open and connected learning environment.”

As a part of its implementation of the Brightspace platform, students at Ferrum College will also use D2L ePortfolio-a personalized online application for storing, organizing and sharing documents, graphics, audio files and presentations. D2L ePortfolio will enable students to easily share their achievements, knowledge and reflections with advisors, employers or peers-even beyond their college years.

“Students have expressed to us that a more flexible and personalized learning approach is more suited to their lifestyles. Personalized learning also directly improves their learning outcomes,” said John Baker, President and CEO of D2L. “Ferrum College’s dedication to providing the most innovative educational technology will serve its students well, helping them to better access and share materials both online and offline as needed.”
