The Federal Government of Nigeria has advocated for technology transfer in tackling water sector challenges in Nigeria as this will improve service delivery to Nigerians.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Water Resources, Mrs. Sarah Reng Ochekpe on the 25th November, 2013 in her opening speech at the Seminar and Exhibition of Water Africa and West Africa Building and Construction in Abuja.
She added that cross fertilization of ideas by the participants on how to effectively and efficiently utilize the new technology would improve service delivery to enhance access to save potable water and Sanitation in Nigeria.
Mrs. Sarah Reng Ochekpe said that Information and knowledge are keys to critical development in the sector. She urged participants to exploit the Seminar and Exhibition for their technological development, adding that the Exhibition would afford staff of the Ministry to key into the new tools and ideas being displayed.
She commended the organizer of the event, Ace Event Management, a United Kingdom based Company that brought together both private and public sectors in Water and Construction business to look at new tools being displayed.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, Baba Umar Farouk stated that the exhibition, an annual event that provides for critical stakeholders in private and public sectors in the Water and Construction business the opportunities to see displays by exhibitors, of new technologies in use in the Water and Construction sectors.
“The objective of this year Seminar and Exhibition is to showcase new tools, machineries and techniques for Water, Housing and Construction sectors as well as provide a platform for interaction with experts for purposes of cross fertilization of ideas among all stakeholders”, he explained.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Managing Director, Ace Event, Mrs. Tracey Nolan Shaw said that effective management of Water and Infrastructure services are of critical importance in Nigeria. She urged Nigerian business men and other stakeholders to seize the opportunity to interact towards building more sustainable Water and infrastructure services in the Country.
She explained that this year event being the third in Abuja, had witnessed steady increase in the number of Exhibitors, Sponsors and Participants. “We have over one hundred organizations exhibiting their products and services”, she added.
The event was organized by Ace Event Management in collaboration with the Federal Ministries of Water Resources, Environment, Works, Land, Housing and Urban Development, Power and other stakeholders in Water, Construction and Building.
