Following the proposed rally by the #BringBackOurGirls protesters to commemorate 100 days since over 200 girls of the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, were abducted by Boko Haram insurgents, the federal government yesterday cautioned parents and guardians against releasing their children and wards to take part in the rally.
The Coordinator of the National Information Centre, Mr. Mike Omeri, gave this advice during the routine briefing on federal government’s mission to rescue the abducted Chibok schoolgirls.
“Information available to us is that some groups are planning to mobilize children across the country to hold rally to mark 100 days since the Chibok schoolgirls were abducted from their school.
“It will be wise for parents not to allow their children to participate and if they want to, they should be conscious of whom they are releasing their children to for the rally”, Omeri said.
The NIC, however, stressed that government is not preventing citizens from exercising their constitutional rights even as it explained that it will be proper if the security situation in the country is not worsened.
