The Federal Government has announced plans to address the recurring sea incursion impacting Ayetoro community in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, with assurances that relief is on the way.
The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, expressed the government’s commitment to working alongside the Ondo State Government to tackle the environmental challenges faced by the coastal, theocratic community. He assured residents that Ayetoro’s restoration is a priority.
Speaking at a town hall meeting and stakeholders’ engagement organized by the Federal Ministry of Works regarding the alignment of Ondo State’s 63km segment of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, Umahi emphasized that the government will assess the Ayetoro situation following the governorship election.
The Minister also warned that the federal government will not tolerate contractors delaying projects after contracts have been awarded.
“When a contract is awarded, contractors must act promptly.
The Procurement Act allows for flexibility in mobilization fees but does not mandate immediate payment,” Umahi noted. “Contractors are expected to show financial readiness when they are paid.”
He further assured that the ministry is focused on addressing road infrastructure issues, adding, “I take full responsibility for any failures, including bad roads and ongoing projects that are lagging. Rest assured, we are not resting on our commitment.”
