Abuja (Federal Ministry of Power Report) – In the efforts to stabilize and improve on power generation, the Nigerian Government is considering a fast way of solving the problem of lingering power supply shortage in the country through embedded power.
While speaking at a recent parley with newsmen, the Minister of Power, Chinedu Nebo (Prof) said that even farmers can benefit from embedded power. Adding, less emphasis would be on the national grid, while small clusters of end-users and industries located in the same area can have power distributed to them from the excess produced in their localities.
Chinedu Nebo intensified that to encourage those interested in the model, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is considering a type of intervention similar to the carbon credit scheme already developed in some countries. He also noted that as at now, nothing is on ground as a form of incentive to those interested as it is known to be in other climes. He revealed that the Government is desirous of encouraging those with excess power for use as embedded generation; stating that such could be sold to the grid after clearance with appropriate Government agencies.
Chinedu Nebo denounced the unpatriotic acts of pipeline vandals, describing their actions as pure sabotage. “These people seem to be against the progress of their country by the way they operate. It is clear that they are sophisticated and have clear understanding of the terrain as whenever we finish repair works, the vandals will strike immediately afterwards,” he informed.
“Government is now set to utilise the digital system to counter this menace with a robust synergy of all security agencies in the years ahead in process towards tackling these criminals.”
