FIFA TV dominated the 2014 International Broadcasting Convention Awards on September 14, bringing home two of the biggest prizes in the global broadcast industry for their work in producing and distributing the FIFA World Cup™.
At a glittering ceremony in Amsterdam, the IBC celebrated FIFA TV’s long-term dedication to distributing and delivering the very best viewing experience of the FIFA World Cup to fans around the world with their flagship International Honour for Excellence award.
Receiving this top industry prize places FIFA TV among highly-distinguished company from the entertainment industry, including Oscar-winning Hollywood directors James Cameron (Titanic) and Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings), acclaimed wildlife documentary maker David Attenborough, the cutting-edge research lab at Japanese broadcaster NHK and audio pioneer Ray Dolby.
Peter Owen, chair of the IBC Council which awards the International Honour for Excellence, said: “FIFA TV continues to innovate and to engage with its huge global audience. It brings together the latest technologies and leading vendors to deliver unmatched content to unrivalled audiences.”
FIFA TV, the television arm of FIFA, also won the coveted IBC Judges’ Prize in recognition of a range of broadcast innovations introduced during the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, including the very latest multimedia content and production and ultra-high definition coverage of matches.
In awarding this prize, the IBC praised FIFA TV for its continued commitment to embracing new technology and for bringing together a host of industry-leading companies to work on innovative projects at the FIFA World Cup.
FIFA TV is responsible for producing and distributing match and non-match content to broadcasters and fans around the world. The 2014 FIFA World Cup reached every territory on the planet and broke records for online streaming and television viewing in several key markets, including United States and Germany.

These agreements with broadcasters, including several arrangements for free-to-air viewing, also ensure that the FIFA World Cup is a truly global phenomenon that can be enjoyed by fans everywhere.
In further recognition of FIFA TV’s work during the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, the Sports Video Group presented the team with a Production Achievement Award at their annual Sport Production & Technical Achievement Awards ceremony at the IBC conference.
