Efforts of the Ogun State Government to utilize agriculture to drive its industrialization programme has again received a boost with the establishment of a N5b ethanol producing plant in Igbesa, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government area of the State.
The factory which is the first of its kind in Africa has an installed capacity of processing 240 tonnes of cassava per day and nine million litres per annum.All these came to light when the Managing Director of Allied Atlantic Distilleries, owners of the plant Mr Anurag Dhiuman was conducting the State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru round the factory.
Dhiuman pointed out that the plant was also capable of providing 8,000 direct jobs and over 70,000 indirect jobs for farmers and non-farmers.He said the major agricultural input of the company is cassava cultivated massively in the State, a development which explained the decision to locate the multi billion naira factory in the State.
The Chief Executive commended the State government for creating a business-friendly environment which had resulted in the influx of investors and enhance employment opportunities and sustainable economic growth.In his response, Otunba Ashiru expressed satisfaction with the activities of the company, especially its local content policy, noting that this would boost agricultural production, especially cassava revolution.
While describing the ethanol making factory as another landmark achievement for the State in wealth creation and economic growth, the Commissioner advised other entrepreneurs to take advantage of the potentials and peaceful environment of the State and locate their businesses in it.
