First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, in conjunction with women groups and faith-based organisations, Monday converged on Abuja on Monday to pray and fast for the release of the girls abducted by Islamist sect group Boko Haram in Chibok, Borno State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the prayer session was organised by Mrs. Jonathan’s pet project, the Women for Change Development and Initiative (W4CDI).

“The seven-day event is part of the first lady’s vision to seek God’s face and intervention for the nation,” said Rabi Ibrahim, National Coordinator of the project.

“As the President of the African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM), she has engendered peace, not only in Nigeria, but also on the continent.

“The first lady has organised this prayer session for women, including Muslims and Christians, as a unity platform for us to pray for the safe return of our girls.

“It is also for us to pray for God to bring an end to terrorism and restore peace in our country,” Ibrahim said.

Over 200 schoolgirls were on April 14 abducted in Chibok, Borno State, but the efforts of the government, the girls are still held by the Boko Haram group, who has vowed not to release them until the government releases their fighters in detention.
