The Nomad Vigilante Group, a security outfit representing the Fulani community in Nasarawa State, has successfully rescued a kidnap victim.
The group, led by State Commander Alhaji Akajo A. Gyara, carried out the operation on Sunday morning, freeing Bashir Mohammed from his captors.
Mallam Suleiman Tasiu, the National Publicity Secretary of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, confirmed the rescue in a statement on Sunday.
According to Tasiu, Bashir was abducted on Saturday night by unknown individuals near Gitata, Karu Local Government Area of the state.
The Nomad Vigilante Group, inaugurated on January 17, 2024, by the Fulani sociocultural group Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, currently comprises an initial batch of 1,144 members.
The group’s formation aims to combat the rising incidence of kidnapping and other criminal activities in Nasarawa State.
Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, the association’s president, outlined the primary goals of the vigilante group, which include maintaining peace in rural communities, safeguarding the livelihoods of farmers and herders, gathering intelligence, and providing vital information to Nigerian security agencies about criminal activities.
During the inauguration in Lafia, Bodejo emphasized that the Nomad Vigilante Group symbolizes the collective determination to combat banditry, cattle rustling, hunger, and poverty in the region.
He urged vigilante operatives to collaborate closely with relevant security agencies to identify and apprehend criminal elements, contributing to the overall security and stability of Nasarawa State.
The successful rescue operation underscores the commitment of the Fulani Nomad Vigilante Group to enhancing security and safety in Nasarawa State, providing a ray of hope for residents affected by criminal activities.
