Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, yesterday, said the victory of Senator Ahmed Markafi-led Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at the Supreme Court was a victory for Rivers State as the state built all its hope around the party.
Speaking at an interdenominational thanksgiving service at the Ecumenical Centre in Port Harcourt built by his administration for Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, the governor said only Rivers State did not have what he termed ‘Plan B,’ stressing that God gave the party victory at the apex court because of the state. “God saved PDP because of Rivers State. We are the only state without Plan B,” he said.
Similarly, Bayelsa State governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson has urged Sen Modu Sheriff to respect the Supreme Court judgment, which nullified his leadership and supported the leadership of Makarfi. He said: “I call on Senator Sheriff and his supporters and all contending insterests in our great party, PDP, to respect the verdict of the Supreme Court as the final arbiter.
I urge all contending interests in the PDP to embrace peace and genuine reconciliation and support the Senator Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee of our party with a view to organising an all- inclusive National Unity Convention. “Without such support, genuine reconciliation cannot take place. Without such support, the caretaker committee will have a herculean task organising an acceptable convention and without genuine reconciliation, the party cannot move forward.”
Dickson, who headed the party’s reconciliation committee, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media Relations, Mr. Francis Agbo, said without reconciliation, the party may not have an acceptable convention. Wike, while describing the victory at the apex court as a sweet experience, said God Almighty will continue to shame his political opponents. According to him, they had to cancel their planned party in Port Harcourt since the judgment did not go the way they expected.
He recalled that when the Appeal Court gave victory against Markafi, his opponents rejoiced because they said only party he had his hopes on was near collapse.
The governor who appeared excited as he spoke enjoined members of his party to remain vigilant, stressing that the members of the opposition party would not want to relent in their effort to destroy the PDP. “You must be vigilant. Nobody can take me unaware,” he said.
